Timo here is teaching his famous running drills to young guns from a South Australia Running Team.
You can see clearly the great importance of rhythm during the exercises and the coordination which lack in most of the young athlete which are anyway all good from a performance point of view but have to work on their skills and technique (min. 6')
Humans evolved to adapt to the new environment: regarding running the new inventions aimed at protect their feet from the new environmental conditions such as hard surfaces (tarmac).
Unfortunately this way people have lost their natural form of movement and feel of the ground, which has resulted in being exposed to injuries and other related problems.
Getting back to our natural form of walking and running will have to start with the selection of a correct foot wear. Injecting body weight on the ground while running and having a good feel of the ground will definitely propel you to running fast .
Everybody wants to run strong, fast and injury free: gyms are there to help you to achieve those goals. To increase your power through strength related exercises the question is are you getting the best out of your gym training?
The answer lies solely within the approach and execution of the correct exercises and transitions of power to your running.
Working on the right mode to develop power through strength training so that it will not affect the growth of muscles respects the principles of our biomechanics and leads to running more efficiently.
Exercises and drills are the conditioning mechanism of the body but its approach and transition to running is what makes the difference.
Doing it wrongly will jeopardize your running and can cause serious injuries.
Those exercises also help building strong tendons and critical muscles in our running. Performing them barefoot is the best remedy but due to the current polluted environment we live in, we have to protect our feet for example from sharp objects. Therefore minimal cushioning is the key to get the best feel of the ground.
